Arrival in the vibrant Vietnamese capital, a city of contrasts where tradition and modernity coexist. After the briefing and motorcycle handover, free time to explore the Old Quarter, the city lakes, and the unique atmosphere of Hanoi.
No riding
Leaving Hanoi, we quickly enter a rural Vietnam of green valleys and scenic roads. The route crosses gentle mountain passes to the Mai Chau valley, famous for its Thai villages, rice paddies, and slow, authentic pace of life.
Perfect first day, relaxing
One of the most evocative stages of the tour. Quiet roads wind through tropical forests, rice terraces, and small villages. Arrival at the Pu Luong Nature Reserve offers spectacular views and an atmosphere of total immersion in nature.
One of the most beautiful areas of North Vietnam
We descend towards the plain to reach Ninh Binh, known as the "terrestrial Halong Bay". Slow rivers, karst towers, caves, and temples immersed in greenery make this area one of the most iconic in North Vietnam.
Easy riding + touristic afternoon
The stage crosses agricultural Vietnam, through rice paddies, dikes, and rural villages. Arrival at Duong Lam, one of the best-preserved ancient villages in the country, with laterite houses, traditional courtyards, and a timeless atmosphere.
Real Vietnam, off the beaten path
The road begins to climb towards the Tam Dao mountains, a mountain resort famous for its cool climate and scenic curves. The route is perfect for relaxed riding, with wide views over the plain below and the surrounding forest.
"Motorcycle day" without fatigue
A peaceful return to Hanoi via secondary roads. Last curves, last photos, and time to relax before the tour concludes, taking with you the memory of an authentic and surprising Vietnam.

After years exploring every corner of this country by motorcycle, from the Chinese border to the Mekong Delta, I decided to share this passion with those seeking an authentic experience. I speak the language, I know the people, and I know roads you won't find on any map. Every tour is a journey I'd want to take myself.
Expert guide tips
Documents
Passport valid for at least 6 months with 2 blank pages. E-visa costs 25 USD and takes 3 working days – do it online at evisa.xuatnhapcanh.gov.vn. International Driving Permit is mandatory: get it from your automobile association before departure. Keep digital copies of everything on your phone.
Health and vaccinations
Consult your doctor 4-6 weeks before. Recommended: Hepatitis A/B, Typhoid, Tetanus booster. No malaria risk in our areas, but bring mosquito repellent anyway. Travel insurance is mandatory and must cover motorcycle riding and medical evacuation. Bring your personal medications plus anti-diarrhea and painkillers – pharmacies exist but finding specific drugs can be tricky.
Climate and gear
March-May: mild and dry, 20-28°C. September-November: fresh with occasional rain, 18-26°C. Mountains are always cooler. Bring a light jacket with protections, riding gloves, and ankle boots. Rain gear is essential – sudden showers happen. Pack breathable layers and a fleece for mountain evenings. For temples: covered shoulders and knees. Don't forget sunscreen, sunglasses, and a headlamp.
Money
Currency is Vietnamese Dong (VND). Roughly 1€ = 27,000 VND but check the current rate. Cash is king in rural areas – ATMs are only in cities. I recommend Vietcombank or Techcombank, and withdraw larger amounts to save on fees. Cards work in hotels and bigger restaurants, but always have cash backup. Tipping isn't expected but 50-100k VND for great service is appreciated.
Riding level
You need to be comfortable on a motorcycle for 3-4 hours a day. No off-road skills required – 90% is asphalt – but mountain curves demand confidence. Physical fitness? Moderate. Nothing extreme, but you should be able to handle a bike in different conditions. The pace is relaxed: plenty of photo stops, coffee breaks, and no rushing. We ride to enjoy, not to arrive.
Wildlife
Vietnam has wildlife, but encounters are rare on our routes. No bears in our areas. Snakes exist but avoid humans – watch where you step on trails. Spiders and scorpions: shake out boots left outside. Mosquitoes are the real nuisance – use repellent at dawn/dusk. Leeches appear in wet jungle areas after rain, annoying but harmless. Stray dogs: don't pet them. Monkeys near temples can be cheeky – keep food hidden. Overall: common sense prevails, nothing to worry about.
Practical tips
Buy a local SIM at the airport – Viettel or Mobifone, about 10 USD for 30 days with plenty of data. English is limited outside tourist areas: learn "xin chào" (hello) and "cảm ơn" (thanks), locals love it. Traffic in cities looks chaotic but has its own logic – stay calm and follow me. Vietnamese food is incredible: street food is usually safe, just use common sense. Time zone is GMT+7, so 6-7 hours ahead of Western Europe.
