Egypt Desert Legacy
Buggy raid from the Pyramids to the heart of the White Desert
A desert raid is not something you improvise. That's why we chose to offer it only in its finest form.
Egypt Desert Legacy is a fully assisted 7-day expedition in private 4x4 buggies, starting from one of the most iconic places on the planet, the Pyramids of Giza, leading into the heart of the Egyptian Western Desert.
A unique journey combining ancient history and adventure, crossing Saharan tracks, accessible dunes, the Black Desert and the famous White Desert, all the way to Egypt's remote oases.
The expedition is designed to offer real desert, safety and comfort, with a professional support team, expert guidance and balanced stages. Nights are spent in luxury desert camps under the stars.
It's not a race, but a premium experiential raid, designed for those who want to experience the most authentic Egypt while driving, without facing extreme difficulties.
Your vehicle: Buggy 4x4
You'll drive a private Can-Am or Polaris buggy – powerful, safe, and incredibly fun. Automatic transmission, roll-bar, helmets, and seatbelts included. Each buggy seats 1-2 people, so you can share the experience with a partner or have the cockpit all to yourself.

I grew up in the shadow of the pyramids and learned to ride in the desert before I could drive a car. Egypt is in my blood – its history, its people, its endless horizons. After years guiding expeditions through the Western Desert, I know every oasis, every hidden spring, every road that leads somewhere special. I speak the language of the Bedouin and the language of travelers. Every tour is a journey I've made a hundred times, yet it still amazes me.
Expert guide tips
Documents
Passport valid for at least 6 months with 2 blank pages. Visa on arrival costs 25 USD for most nationalities – also available as e-visa at visa2egypt.gov.eg. International Driving Permit is mandatory: get it from your automobile association before departure. Keep digital copies of everything on your phone.
Health and vaccinations
Consult your doctor 4-6 weeks before. Recommended: Hepatitis A/B, Typhoid, Tetanus booster. No malaria risk in our areas. Travel insurance is mandatory and must cover motorcycle riding and medical evacuation. Bring your personal medications plus anti-diarrhea, painkillers, and rehydration salts – the desert sun is unforgiving.
Climate and gear
October-April: ideal season, 20-30°C during the day, 5-15°C at night in the desert. Summer is extremely hot (40°C+), we don't operate tours. Bring a ventilated jacket with protections, light gloves, and ankle boots. Layering is essential – desert nights are cold. Sunscreen SPF50+, sunglasses, and a buff/scarf to protect from sand are must-haves.
Money
Currency is Egyptian Pound (EGP). Roughly 1€ = 33 EGP but check the current rate. Cash is essential in oases – ATMs only in Cairo, Luxor, and major towns. I recommend withdrawing larger amounts in Cairo. Cards work in hotels and bigger restaurants in cities. Tipping (baksheesh) is expected everywhere – keep small bills handy.
Riding level
You need to be comfortable on a motorcycle for 3-5 hours a day. Most roads are excellent asphalt, but some desert sections have sand patches – confidence is key. Physical fitness? Moderate. The heat can be tiring, so hydration is crucial. The pace is relaxed: plenty of photo stops, tea breaks with Bedouins, and no rushing. We ride to experience, not to race.
Wildlife
The Egyptian desert has wildlife, but encounters are rare. Scorpions exist – always shake out boots and check sleeping bags. Snakes are extremely shy and avoid humans. Fennec foxes and desert foxes may visit camps at night – don't feed them. Camels are everywhere and have right of way! In oases, watch for donkeys and goats on the road. Overall: common sense and respect for the environment.
Practical tips
Buy a local SIM at Cairo airport – Vodafone or Orange, about 10 USD for plenty of data. Signal is good on main roads, patchy in deep desert. English is common in tourist areas, basic Arabic phrases help elsewhere: "shukran" (thanks) and "salaam" (peace/hello). Egyptian hospitality is legendary – accept tea invitations when possible. Time zone is GMT+2. Respect local customs: dress modestly when visiting mosques or rural areas.
